Westgate Labs Celebrates the First Ever National SQP Week
The 5th to the 12th June 2026 marks the first ever National SQP Week, a nationwide campaign celebrating the vital role that Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs) play in supporting animal health and welfare across the UK.
National SQP Week has been launched by industry regulators AMTRA, Vetpol and VetSkill to raise awareness of the expertise, knowledge and support that SQPs provide to animal owners every day.
Westgate has seven SQPs who are highly trained professionals, qualified to prescribe, dispense and supply certain animal medicines, while also providing trusted advice on their safe and responsible use. They support the health and wellbeing of pets, horses, livestock and poultry, helping owners make informed decisions about parasite control, disease prevention and animal welfare.
Despite the important role they play, recent industry research suggests that many animal owners are unaware of the depth of training and expertise held by SQPs. National SQP Week aims to change that by shining a spotlight on the profession and recognising the positive impact SQPs have on animal health across the country.
At Westgate Labs, our SQPs are an important and essentials part of the service we provide to customers. They help animal owners understand parasite risks, interpret test results, and make informed decisions about treatment as part of a targeted worm control plan. Their expert knowledge supports our mission to promote evidence-based parasite control and responsible use of animal medicines.
