British Horse Foundation Conference 2026
14 October 2026
Champions an evidence based approach to give young horses the best start
🐎 🎓 What an inspiring day Kristy and Claire enjoyed at the third British Horse Foundation Conference, 13 October 2026. Titled 'Better Beginnings’ the conference focus was on the right preparation from conception onwards. Hearing all the evidence based research going on to support young horses is right up our street. Eminent scientists, top riders, breeders, vets and trainers from some of our most influential organisations and institutions were all there to share their take on this intricate balance of raising young horses well to help them reach their full potential.
From temperament to epigenetics and the impact of the mare’s health and wellbeing on the developing foal, to good weaning, limb and foot balance, the importance of play and movement to establish a healthy muscular skeletal system as well as the impact of the microbiome on performance we covered it all! Director Claire Shand was interviewed by Olympian Richard Davison about the re-emergence of large redworm, anthelmintic resistance and the impact of climate change on parasite control. Such an important part of the puzzle for young horses.
The event was hosted by kind permission of Weatherbys. An added bonus to be allowed access to some of racing’s most precious historical artefacts dating. Handwritten ledgers dating back to the 1800’s. What a day. Thanks for a having us!
