We are thrilled to announce that Westgate Labs, in partnership with Adreco Plastics, has been shortlisted for the Sustainability Award in the Material Innovation category of the Plastics Industry Awards 2025!
Together, we’ve achieved something truly pioneering: replacing single-use plastics with a 100% compostable biomaterial container.
A First in the UK
Working with Adreco Plastics, we developed a rigid, airtight, veterinary diagnostic kit container, made from plant-based material that performs like plastic but is fully compostable.
This breakthrough means our worm egg count kits now meet all postal and laboratory requirements while offering a safe and sustainable end-of-life option.
For our customers, it’s as simple as putting the used pots onto the muck heap with the rest of the packaging. The result? A 90% reduction in waste-to-landfill and the final piece of the puzzle in our ambition to deliver 100% sustainable, zero-waste kits.

We are in the unique position of being responsible for all the packaging waste, as it is returned with the sample, this innovation enables a truly closed-loop approach to waste management. Once processed, the used pots can go directly onto the muck heap with the rest of the compostable packaging.
